5-minute guide Last reviewed:

Choose a web analytics tool in 5 minutes

You do not need a long checklist. Pick the job you care about most, rule out tools that do not fit, and compare a few finalists.

1

What do you want to learn?

Choose the main job. You can add more later, but one clear goal makes the shortlist much easier.

  • Traffic and conversions: where visitors come from and what they do.
  • Product behavior: events, funnels, retention, and accounts.
  • UX problems: replays, heatmaps, errors, and feedback.
2

What are your dealbreakers?

Pick at most three. Common dealbreakers are where the data lives, whether you can self-host, cookie or consent needs, and the monthly budget.

  • Hosting and privacy must fit your real setup.
  • Pricing must still work when traffic grows.
  • The tool must include the features you will actually use.
3

Which tool feels easiest?

Compare two to four options. Check the price, open the demo, and try to answer one real question. The easiest tool that meets your dealbreakers is usually the best choice.

  • Can you get an answer without reading a manual?
  • Can you export your data if you leave?
  • Would the people using it every week choose it?

Three reasons to skip a tool

Move on if any of these happen:

  • The real price is unclear for your traffic or feature level.
  • Privacy or hosting claims are vague.
  • The demo looks good, but you cannot test a real question.

Start with a small shortlist

Choose a category or open a comparison. You can compare up to four platforms.
